Putin identifies Britain as his top enemy, says UK defence secretary John Healey

British Defence Secretary John Healey has issued a stark warning that Russian President Vladimir Putin considers the UK to be his “number one enemy.” The statement underscores the growing tensions as Britain maintains robust support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict, reports BritPanorama.

During the Lord Mayor of London’s Defence Lecture at Mansion House, Healey noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regards the UK as “his closest ally.” This sentiment reflects geopolitical sentiments that have enraged the Kremlin.

Healey’s remarks contrast sharply with the inconsistent positions of former US President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine and Russia. Trump previously advised Zelensky to concede to Putin’s demands to avoid being “crushed” by Russian forces.

Amid these political dynamics, the UK plans to provide a record £4.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine this year. Healey praised the British public for their solidarity, highlighting that they have welcomed 167,000 Ukrainian refugees into the country. He stated, “The British public have shown, too, that our nation remains united for Ukraine.”

Furthermore, Healey announced that Britain is set to commence the production of a new type of interceptor drone, named Octopus, designed to counter Russian Shahed drones. This initiative represents a collaborative effort between Ukrainian technology and UK manufacturing.
