Nigel Farage breaches parliamentary rules on multiple income declarations
Nigel Farage has breached MP sleaze rules 17 times by failing to declare £380,000 of income within the required timeframe, reports BritPanorama.
Following an investigation, Commons ethics chief Daniel Greenberg concluded that these breaches resulted from “staffing and other administrative issues” and were honest mistakes. Farage has since acknowledged his errors and expressed a commitment to adhere strictly to parliamentary procedures in the future.
The breaches involved various payments, including earnings from appearances on GB News, speaking engagements with Google, and income from the Cameo platform. Farage stated that he was “sincerely sorry” for the late declarations, emphasizing that there was “no malicious intent” behind the oversights.
A letter addressing the findings disclosed that Farage felt “extremely let down by a very senior member of staff.” He also remarked on the responsibilities inherent to his position, acknowledging, “if your staff mess up, ultimately you’re responsible.” He further apologised, declaring, “I fully accept that I’m in the wrong in every way.”
The Labour Party’s response highlighted opposition concerns over Farage’s focus on attracting former Conservative politicians to the Reform UK party. A spokesperson criticized him for neglecting his responsibilities towards constituents, asserting, “He isn’t on the side of working people – he’s just lining his pockets when he should be standing up for his constituents.”
