Labour MPs condemn US strikes on Iran as illegal

LEFT-WING Labour MPs have declared the recent bombing of Iran by the United States and Israel as illegal, reports BritPanorama.

Dame Emily Thornberry, chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, voiced strong criticism against President Donald Trump regarding the airstrikes, asserting that they would “cause chaos in the Middle East.” She expressed relief that the UK is not involved but warned of potential repercussions, including attacks on shipping lanes and oil facilities. Strikes on Iran have escalated tensions in the region, leading to fears of further military confrontations, with security concerns heightening globally.

In a statement on social media platform X, Thornberry articulated the potential fallout: “They are ill-advised and illegal. We will be hit by the consequences though and need to prepare for chaos in the region, with shipping lanes, oil facilities and military bases (including our own) being attacked.”

Fellow Labour MP Richard Burgon remarked that the bombing constitutes an “illegal act of aggression,” emphasizing its role in escalating instability throughout the Middle East. He described Trump’s actions as reckless, undermining international law and global safety.

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn condemned the strikes as “illegal, unprovoked and unjustifiable,” calling for the UK government to denounce what he termed a “flagrant breach of international law” and pursue a foreign policy rooted in justice and peace.

In a related response, Green Party leader Zack Polanski advocated for an end to Britain’s longstanding “Special Relationship” with the US, deeming both the US and Israel as “rogue states” and urging a reevaluation of the UK’s foreign alliances.

The situation remains fluid, with the potential for further military escalation as regional tensions mount. As reactions unfold, the international community’s response to these developments will be critical in shaping future diplomatic relations and efforts for stability in the Middle East.

As geopolitical dynamics shift, the implications of the actions taken by the US and its allies become increasingly complex, revealing deep divisions and a myriad of competing interests within the international landscape.
