Nigel Farage calls for end to work-from-home culture
Nigel Farage has issued a call to end the work-from-home culture in the UK, asserting that such arrangements do not enhance productivity. Farage made this statement during a rally attended by approximately 2,000 supporters in Birmingham, advocating for an “attitudinal change to hard work,” reports BritPanorama.
The Reform UK leader characterized the notion that employees perform better at home as “nonsense,” suggesting that productivity is maximized when individuals collaborate in an office setting. He emphasized, “People aren’t more productive working at home – it’s a load of nonsense,” articulating that teamwork is vital for effective output.
Farage further elaborated on the mindset shift he believes is necessary, stating that a transition towards valuing hard work over work-life balance is imperative. He remarked, “You can’t go on the sick because you’ve got mild anxiety,” reinforcing his view that Britain must embrace a culture of resilience and commitment.
This is not the first time Farage has broached the subject of remote work; he first committed to dismantling such practices in May 2024, as he geared up for local elections. He instructed that in Reform councils, employees would be mandated to work from the office or face dismissal. Current statistics from the Office for National Statistics indicate that the number of people working from home surged from 4.7 million to 9.9 million between late 2019 and early 2022.
More recent data reveals that as of early 2025, 28 percent of the UK workforce is engaged in hybrid work, while 13 percent are fully remote. At the rally, Farage also directed his criticism towards the Prime Minister, calling for their resignation while asserting that Reform UK is now on a “general election war footing” in preparation for future contests.
Farage expressed confidence that his party is poised to succeed in the next election, hinting at the possibility of it occurring sooner than anticipated. He referred to the upcoming elections on May 7 as “crucial” and indicated plans to unveil his shadow cabinet imminently. The Reform UK leader claims to have assembled a team of capable individuals ready to navigate the political landscape.
As the rally concluded, members of the party joined Farage on stage, celebrating recent additions to the Reform team and further solidifying the party’s unified front.
