London, April 3, 2025 – Despite political debates in Washington over continued support for Ukraine, the European Union and other international partners remain committed to providing financial, military, and diplomatic assistance to Kyiv. Europe is asserting its strategic independence, reinforcing regional security, and upholding the international order.

Financial Stability: EU Transfers €3.5 Billion to Ukraine

The European Commission has allocated €3.5 billion to Ukraine as part of the Ukraine Facility program. These funds are aimed at maintaining the country’s macroeconomic stability and recognizing its reforms on the path to EU membership. In total, the program is set to provide up to €50 billion in loans and grants from 2024 to 2027, demonstrating long-term financial support for Ukraine from Brussels.

Sanctions & Frozen Assets: Europe Maintains Pressure on Russia

The European Union has also reaffirmed the necessity of keeping Russia’s frozen assets under sanctions. During the March 20, 2025, EU summit, leaders decided that these assets would remain blocked until Russia ceases its aggression and compensates Ukraine for its losses. Poland, the Czech Republic, and the Baltic states advocate for the confiscation of Russian funds to be used in Ukraine’s reconstruction.

NATO & G5+ Nations: Continued Military and Political Support

In addition to financial aid, EU and NATO member states continue to provide Ukraine with substantial military support. The G5+ group (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Poland) reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining sanctions and supplying further weaponry to Ukraine.

European nations are also active on the diplomatic front, advocating for Ukraine in international forums and within the United Nations Security Council.

What Does This Mean for the UK?

The United Kingdom remains a key ally of Ukraine, providing military aid and maintaining strong sanctions against Moscow. The British government, in coordination with NATO partners, is strengthening defense cooperation with Ukraine, supplying advanced weaponry and intelligence support.

Europe is proving that its support for Ukraine is not just a political decision but a strategic commitment to peace, stability, and the rules-based international order.
