Angela Rayner has relocated her partner Sam Tarry into her new seaside residence in Hove, weeks after her resignation as Deputy Prime Minister due to a stamp duty controversy, reports BritPanorama.
Rayner was spotted exiting the £800,000 three-bedroom apartment shortly after Tarry, her former parliamentary colleague, left with a set of keys. Their actions signal a significant step in their relationship, which has experienced ups and downs since 2022.
The move follows reports that Tarry was seen transferring items between Rayner’s flat and his home in Brighton, assisted by her taxpayer-funded security team. A source close to the couple commented, “Angela and Sam certainly seem to be taking the next step in their relationship. They have been spending a lot of time together recently – and now it would appear they have moved in together.”
Tarry, who lost his Ilford South seat in last year’s general election, is a father of two and has maintained an on-off romantic relationship with Rayner, a mother of three. He was seen leaving Rayner’s residence dressed in a grey and white camouflage outfit.
Rayner, 45, had previously been embroiled in controversy prior to her resignation on September 5, following revelations that she underpaid £40,000 in stamp duty on the Hove apartment. This issue arose after The Sun on Sunday reported her acquisition of the property, leading to the moniker “Three Pads Rayner.”
The former Deputy PM already holds a grace-and-favour flat at Admiralty House in Whitehall and is registered at her family home in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester. After being questioned on the stamp duty matter, she tearfully asserted that incorrect tax advice led to the underpayment.
However, Sir Laurie Magnus, the Prime Minister’s Independent Adviser on Ministerial Standards, found that Rayner violated the ministerial code by failing to meet tax obligations.
