Repair works to a major pipeline in the Greater Dublin Area have been “completed”, Uisce Éireann has said.
It added that “water is restored” to all those in the region, which includes parts of Co Wicklow and Co Kildare.
The pipeline supplying one third of the region’s drinking water had been at risk of failure, which the water utility company said could have led to widescale outages and disturbances, if left to rupture.

However, it said its specialist teams “worked through the night and day to repair five leaks and replace 35 metres of damaged pipeline”, which is now complete.
It added the repairs to the pipeline connecting Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant and the Saggart Reservoir have secured the water supply for the region.
“The water has now been turned back on and the network continues to replenish towards normal levels,” it said.
However, it urged the public in the region “to continue to make every effort to conserve water while the network is refilling” following the work.
Uisce Éireann said crews are on standby “to investigate reports of low pressure and intermittent supply”, adding that customers experiencing issues with their water supply can contact them.
