From chilli eating competitions in Herbert Park to Lúnasa celebrations in Hugh Lane, there is plenty happening in Dublin this weekend.

STOP THE LIGHTS!

On Friday, 15 August, Hen’s Teeth in Dublin’s Blackpitts will be hosting the fifth edition of STOP THE LIGHTS! DJ Kelly-Anne Byrne goes back to back with Dublin rapper MANGO to bring soul, hip hop, disco, house, 90s classics and funky jams to the dancefloor.

Big Grill Festival 2025

From Thursday, 14 August – Sunday, 17 August, Europe’s Biggest BBQ & Food Festival will take place in Herbert Park. As well as delicious food, the family-friendly event will host a chilli eating competition, live music, cooking demonstrations, and more. 

Vertigo 67: The Final Reckoning

Celebrating the 67th anniversary of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, the Vertigo67 festival will take place at Trinity College Dublin from Tuesday, 12 August – Friday, 15 August. The event will see international writers, musicologists, and artists explore the cinematic classic through a series of carefully selected presentations and panel discussions. Tickets will cost €10 and be available at the door in the Trinity Long Room Hub – cash only.

Make a Lúnasa Ornament

On Friday, 15 August, from 11.30am-1.30pm, Hugh Lane Gallery is hosting a family-friendly, drop-in workshop. Artist Michelle Hall will be on hand to help children and their adults create artwork ahead of the festival of Lúnasa. Using a range of colourful materials, you’ll create your very own harvest ornament. This event is free, no booking required.

IFI Family Festival 2025

The IFI is hosting a three-day event (Friday, August 15 – Sunday, August 17) for young film fans. This year’s selection of new international films and Irish classics shares themes of imagination and messages of being yourself.
