Ozzy Osbourne Reflects on Life and Death in Final Autobiography

In his posthumous autobiography, Last Rites, Ozzy Osbourne confronts his mortality following his death in July 2025, just 16 days after his final concert with Black Sabbath at Villa Park, a venue close to his childhood home, reports BritPanorama.

The 76-year-old rock icon’s memoir, ghostwritten by Chris Ayres, offers a stark look into Osbourne’s life, reflecting on his health struggles, relationships, and a career that began in 1967. Just before his passing, Osbourne expressed his awareness of impending death, stating, “Death’s been knocking at my door for the last six years louder and louder. At some point, I’m gonna have to let him in.”

Osbourne’s narrative is infused with moments of dark humor as he navigates his numerous health issues, including Parkinson’s disease and heart complications, while reminiscing about his iconic career and personal life. He recalls the absurdity of his apple obsession—specifically Pink Ladies, stating he would eat up to 12 each night, carefully selecting them himself to avoid inferior quality.

The autobiography provides insights into his tumultuous relationship with his wife, Sharon. Despite their chaotic beginnings and Osbourne’s struggles with addiction, their marriage endured, showcasing a bond forged through years of highs and lows. Osbourne acknowledges the complexity of their relationship, admitting, “if there’s one person who deserves an apology, it’s Sharon.”

Through tales of his childhood in Birmingham, outrageous performances, and the tragic loss of his guitarist Randy Rhoads, Osbourne’s account serves as both a celebration and a reflection on a life lived without restraint. The memoir candidly portrays the darker aspects of fame and the impacts of excess, juxtaposed against his final attempts to connect with his family and legacy.

Ultimately, Last Rites stands as a testament to Osbourne’s larger-than-life persona while illuminating the quiet battles faced in his later years. He leaves behind a legacy entwined with the history of heavy metal, remembered not only for his music but also for the indelible mark he left on popular culture.
