A Status Yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued for ten counties.

The warning for counties Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wicklow, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Galway is in effect and will last until 8pm.

Met Éireann warned there could be spot flooding and lightning damage.

The forecaster said showers will develop over the southern half of the country and will become more widespread this afternoon.

It said that some showers will be heavy and added highest temperatures will be between 15C to 20C.

However, Met Éireann said it will be “mainly dry” up to Friday and added the weather will become more unsettled over the weekend with rain or showers spreading from the west.
