Ukrainian industrial firm Interpipe acquires Romanian steel tube plant in EU market expansion

Ukrainian industrial manufacturer Interpipe has purchased the ArcelorMittal Tubular Products factory in Roman, Romania, marking its first production platform within the European Union and strengthening its position in the continent’s seamless steel tube market.

Strategic expansion into European market

The acquisition provides Interpipe with a strategic manufacturing foothold inside the EU single market, moving beyond mere export activities. The Romanian plant, located in Roman, specialises in producing seamless steel tubes with diameters ranging from 168.3 to 406.4 millimetres. This product range is critical for Europe’s energy, construction, and industrial sectors, as well as for onshore and offshore pipelines and oil and gas extraction casing. The deal, which was confirmed the acquisition of the ArcelorMittal Tubular Products facility in Roman, represents a significant shift for the Ukrainian company from external supplier to integrated EU producer.

Romanian industrial asset gains stronger backing

For Romania, the transaction secures the future of a key industrial asset under the control of a vertically integrated manufacturer with its own metallurgical base. Interpipe’s established sales networks across dozens of external markets are expected to provide the Romanian facility with a broader client base and more stable long-term order books. This enhances the plant’s chances of sustained operation and higher efficiency, even when demand in specific market segments fluctuates. Romania thus gains a more resilient player in the European seamless tube industry than it would have from the facility operating in isolation.

Technical specifications meet demanding European sectors

The AMTP plant’s technical focus places it within market niches where technical compliance, tolerances, and the trust of major contractors are as crucial as volume. Its production of large-diameter tubes for complex infrastructure and energy projects aligns with sectors characterised by long-term, solvent demand. This ensures the Romanian asset remains tied to economically sustainable industrial activities rather than volatile commodity markets.

Vertical integration strengthens competitive position

Incorporating the Romanian factory into the Interpipe group, which owns its own tube mills and electric steelmaking complex, provides AMTP with a more powerful production foundation and better supply chain coordination. Ukraine, through this move, anchors one of its key industrial manufacturers physically inside the EU. The integration is expected to bolster the Roman plant’s competitive standing by leveraging Interpipe’s established production ecosystems and technical expertise.
