John Lewis brings Topshop back to UK high streets
John Lewis is reinstating the historic brand Topshop across its stores in the UK this week, marking a significant return for the fashion label that shuttered its standalone high street outlets in 2021 amid the collapse of Arcadia Group, reports BritPanorama.
The launch, scheduled for Tuesday, is part of an expansion involving new brands for the upcoming spring/summer season as John Lewis invests £800 million in its retail spaces.
Previously, John Lewis confirmed a partnership with Topshop that began with pop-up stores in various locations. Since the demise of Arcadia, which led to Topshop and sister brand Topman disappearing from the high streets, the brand was acquired by Asos and initially offered online products.
Last year, Topshop made a brief return to physical retail with a launch in London’s Liberty store before announcing the arrangement with John Lewis.
Topshop products will be featured in all 32 John Lewis stores, while Topman will be available in seven locations. The offering includes a collection of 130 highly sought-after items, particularly their well-known denim products.
Additionally, both Topshop and Topman collections will be accessible through John Lewis’s online platforms following this launch.
Michelle Wilson, managing director of Topshop, stated: “Today is about making it easier for customers to access the Topshop and Topman pieces they love. From our cult denim to new-season footwear, you can see it, feel it and take it home the same day. Partnering with John Lewis brings Topshop back to high streets across the UK with the level of service our customers expect.”
This revival coincides with London Fashion Week, featuring activations throughout the city, including a “takeover” of Piccadilly Circus.
The launch is a part of John Lewis’s extensive growth strategy under managing director Peter Ruis, who emphasised the significance of the brand’s return in enhancing its fashion offering.
Mr Ruis further noted: “This moment marks a significant acceleration of our fashion ambition at John Lewis. To be the exclusive home of an iconic brand like Topshop, sat alongside other exciting new brands, signals our commitment to be the definitive style authority on the British high street.”
In conjunction with this initiative, John Lewis is also adding 14 new fashion, jewellery, and accessory brands to its roster as it aims to enhance its overall fashion offerings, following a major redesign of its fashion floors at the Oxford Street flagship.
