Dazn to introduce new premium subscription for all pay-per-view events next month

Dazn is set to announce comprehensive details of its new premium subscription that will include all pay-per-view events next month, reports BritPanorama.

The UK-based sports streaming service aims to provide significant value for viewers who frequently purchase multiple PPV boxing events, which total around 15 annually. This initiative is expected to enhance viewership for these high-profile contests, as noted by various media sources.

In a statement to City AM, Dazn’s Pete Oliver indicated, “We will be launching a new product in November for pay-per-view,” adding that customers will have the option to subscribe to gain access to all included pay-per-views. He noted the challenge faced by consumers having to buy fights individually, and the desire to offer a different purchasing option.

Oliver emphasized their commitment to affordability, stating, “We haven’t announced pricing yet, but we’re going to price it at a level that’s very good value for customers.” He asserted this approach would benefit fans and boxing promoters alike by potentially boosting fight viewership.

This announcement comes amid rising scrutiny of the pay-per-view model, particularly following an announcement by Saudi sports promoter Turki Alalshikh in July, who stated that no boxing events under his Riyadh Season would be offered on PPV from November.

NHL joins NFL and FIBA bolt-on passes on Dazn

The announcement aligns with Dazn’s strategy to diversify its content through additional bolt-on passes. Recently, the service revealed that NHL.TV will be offered alongside NFL Game Pass and FIBA’s Courtside 1891 basketball content on its platform.

Oliver explained the innovative business model, stating, “It’s a business model that’s quite different to traditional broadcasting,” highlighting the collaborative approach with rights holders based on a revenue-sharing format. This structure positions them as partners, enhancing service accessibility for fans.

For example, he remarked that “you can now get NFL Game Pass on Dazn. You get NHL. You can actually get college football as well.” He pointed out the ongoing expansion, stating more offerings are on the horizon.

Dazn claims a doubling of NFL Game Pass subscribers since the launch of its partnership, coupled with the introduction of features like a multi-screen function that allows viewers to watch multiple games simultaneously.

With the integration of pay-per-view events into a premium subscription and the anticipation of new bolt-on options, Oliver stated Dazn is “looking at” the prospect of creating a single comprehensive pass that would grant access to all its content. He noted, “It’s something we’d like to do for American sports,” acknowledging the need for negotiations with rights holders to ensure fair revenue distribution.

While he remains uncertain about achieving one mega-pass, he remarked, “in many countries, Dazn does offer a subscription with multiple sports in it,” indicating a commitment to providing flexible purchasing options for various customer needs.
