Celebrity Traitors faces unpredicted turns as Faithful struggle to identify Traitors
The latest episode of The Celebrity Traitors revealed a significant misstep from the Faithful, who opted to eliminate pumpkin scarecrows of participants they believed should not gain a superpower, inadvertently protecting the Traitors, reports BritPanorama.
This decision effectively handed control of the game to the Traitors, particularly Kenny, who now wields a dagger that grants him double voting power at the Round Table. Consequently, either Sharon Rooney or Joanne McNally could face banishment, signalling another potential blow to the Faithful.
Despite widespread assumptions that Maya Jama, James Acaster, and Kenny could not possibly be Traitors, the reasoning behind this belief remains unclear. None of the remaining contestants have scrutinized them closely, with only these three and Romesh Ranganathan enjoying the advantage of never being nominated at the Round Table.
Some defend the Faithful’s strategy, citing their prior successes in eliminating Traitors like Richard E Grant and Hannah Fry. However, Richard’s banishment was a straightforward outcome, given his open declaration of being a Traitor, while Hannah’s exit might reflect more on the Traitors’ strategies rather than any investigative prowess on the part of the Faithful.
Hannah has pointed out that had she remained in the game, her analytical skills, drawing on principles inspired by Alan Turing, could have significantly altered the course of events. She outlined that Traitors typically cast a “burn vote” early in the game, avoid sitting together during meals, and never vote for the same Traitor repeatedly, suggesting a pattern that could expose their identities.
At this stage of the show, viewers expect an active pursuit of the Traitors by the Faithful. Historically, there tends to be at least one player who deduces the reality behind the game, aiming to convince teammates about the true nature of the seemingly innocuous contestants. This season, however, such engagement feels lacking, with the Faithful struggling to identify the Traitors among them.
The ongoing lack of tension is diminishing viewer engagement. This week’s cliffhanger concluded with a tied vote, leaving either Sharon or Joanne facing banishment. However, the anticipated outcome holds little consequence for the broader dynamics of the game, as the remaining Faithful will likely suspect the survivor of being a Traitor. This could enable the Traitors to enjoy another smooth passage through the Round Table.
What previously made The Traitors captivating were its unpredictable twists. Currently, forecasts for the endgame appear straightforward, diminishing the excitement. There is a growing anticipation that one of the Traitors must falter soon, allowing the Faithful a chance to regain control before what could be an uneventful finale.
The Celebrity Traitors continues on Thursday at 8pm on BBC One
