Harry Kane considers NFL career post-football
England captain Harry Kane has revealed he is considering a transition to the NFL following his football career. The Ballon d’Or favourite stated he will “seriously” explore the option of joining a team as a kicker, highlighting the similarities he sees between both sports, reports BritPanorama.
Kane’s remarks come amidst a successful tenure at Bayern Munich, where he has excelled, further solidifying his status as a prolific scorer. He indicated that his precision from the penalty spot could translate well to the kicking role in American football. “I take penalties and it is a very similar pressure, technique,” he remarked.
The potential switch to the NFL is not without precedent; athletes like Brandon Aubrey have made successful transitions from football to American football, currently playing for the Dallas Cowboys after being drafted from Toronto FC. Kane expressed a level of seriousness regarding this career pivot, stating, “That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously.” However, he acknowledged that many variables over the next few years will influence his decision.
“If I was to do it, it is something I would take seriously. I would take maybe six months to a year of trying to practice before,” Kane explained, noting that he has not been approached by any NFL franchise regarding this potential move.
