UEFA investigates Greenwood and Guendouzi
UEFA has launched disciplinary proceedings against former Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood and his Fenerbahce colleague Matteo Guendouzi following incidents that overshadowed their Champions League qualifying play-off victory over Lyon, reports BritPanorama.

Greenwood, who transferred to Fenerbahce this summer, was caught up in the disorder. UEFA’s investigation will examine his role in the post-match events. Guendouzi defended his actions, citing abuse from supporters throughout the match, including insults directed at his family. “You know, when you’ve got 60,000 people insulting your family, your mum, your children — even before the match,” he remarked.
Guendouzi argued that such abuse affects players significantly, especially when officials fail to address it. Fenerbahce’s manager Ismail Kartal expressed his support for Guendouzi, emphasizing the unity within the team.
The club has stated its intention to mount a robust defence for both players, confirming that they will supply necessary documentation to UEFA and closely monitor developments. Greenwood’s summer transfer to Fenerbahce followed a four-year spell at Manchester United.
