De Zerbi faces scrutiny after Tottenham's poor start to the Premier League season

Tottenham’s struggles continue after disappointing start

Tottenham Hotspur, after a tumultuous previous season that narrowly avoided relegation, has begun the new Premier League campaign with troubling performances, suffering defeats against Brentford and Newcastle, reports BritPanorama.

Following an investment of £320 million on new players aimed at revitalising the squad, expectations ran high. However, the results have been disheartening. Against Brentford, Tottenham was overwhelmed in a 3-0 loss, with debutants Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes struggling to make an impact as the Bees took full advantage.

In their subsequent match against Newcastle, Spurs started brightly but faltered, conceding goals from Anthony Elanga and Yoanne Wissa to finish the match 2-0 in favour of the Magpies. With only two matches played, concerns regarding another relegation struggle are surfacing among fans, particularly after previous seasons of anxiety.

Despite the high-profile signings aimed at enhancing team performance, Tottenham remains in disarray. The hefty financial investments have yet to translate into the expected improvement on the pitch, raising fears among supporters about the potential for another disastrous campaign.

The focus now turns to head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who faces increasing scrutiny over his ability to guide the club out of this crisis. Appointed in March after Igor Tudor’s departure, De Zerbi managed to keep the team in the Premier League but has since struggled to deliver consistent results, with just three victories in nine league matches.

While he is credited with navigating a tumultuous period last season, criticisms linger regarding his tactical decisions and ability to inspire the team. De Zerbi’s earlier successes, most notably at Brighton, now seem distant, and many wonder if he can recreate that success in a club with vast resources yet to yield results.

As Tottenham prepares for forthcoming fixtures against Nottingham Forest, Everton, and Aston Villa, the pressure mounts to deliver positive results and reassure fans that they can emerge from this challenging start. With the team currently languishing at the bottom of the table, the stakes have never been higher for both players and management alike.

It’s a sobering reminder of the unpredictable nature of football, where vast spending does not always equate to success on the pitch. Time will tell whether Tottenham can shake off this malaise or if the season ahead will be a painful repeat of the past.
