Bryson DeChambeau remains optimistic about LIV Golf’s future
Bryson DeChambeau has insisted he remains “proud” of LIV Golf and teased that “something fun” could be coming despite uncertainty surrounding the breakaway league’s future, reports BritPanorama.
The American, a prominent figure who left the PGA Tour when LIV launched in 2022, reflected on a tumultuous four years for the controversial circuit. The league’s most recent campaign concluded in Indianapolis over the weekend, right after the season-ending Team Championships in Michigan were cancelled.
This situation unfolds amid significant transformations for LIV, particularly after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrew its financial support in April. Questions have intensified about the league’s prospects moving forward, with chief executive Scott O’Neil asserting that new investors have been found, although specifics about LIV’s future direction remain sparse.
Despite the challenges, DeChambeau’s outlook appears optimistic. “It has been an interesting ride, that’s for sure, everything we’ve gone through, and the tough moments we’ve had. It’s made us stronger,” he said, acknowledging that while mistakes have been made, the league deserves credit for disrupting golf’s established hierarchy.
“But for the most part we’ve done a solid job and if there’s one thing I could say, we did something different in the game of golf and I’m proud of that,” he added.
Intriguingly, DeChambeau hinted at promising developments on the horizon, stating, “I think there’s something fun coming.” This comment coincides with ongoing speculation regarding the futures of several leading LIV players, including Jon Rahm, who recently secured his third consecutive individual championship while maintaining that the uncertainty around the competition has not affected his performance.
Rahm remarked, “There’s been a lot that has surrounded all of us pretty much since we joined, but at the end of the day, once you step on the golf course it’s just golf.” Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy has cautioned that LIV players might encounter significant obstacles if they choose to return to the PGA Tour.
LIV has invested approximately £3.7 billion in efforts to establish itself within the sport, offering lucrative contracts and substantial prize purses to attract top-tier talent. The last tournament marked a milestone as Michael La Sasso became the youngest winner in LIV history, closing with a 65 to finish at 18 under par.
