The UAE has issued an urgent alert over the use of a counterfeit Botox product that could pose a “serious risk to public health,” reports BritPanorama.
The Emirates Drug Establishment announced that a batch of Botox Cosmetic for Injection, identified by batch number C7048C4, was not authorized for importation into the country. This particular batch does not match the records held by AbbVie, the US manufacturer of the product.
Healthcare facilities have been instructed to “immediately cease the use, distribution or circulation of any units carrying the specified batch number,” the establishment stated.
The establishment further emphasized that the product in question was not imported through the official channels. It warned that the use of counterfeit products may pose a serious risk to public health, as they do not comply with approved specifications and could lead to harmful health reactions or unforeseen complications.
Botox is a well-known brand of botulinum toxin injections, frequently used for cosmetic purposes, including smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, preventing migraines, and treating other medical conditions. The Emirates Drug Establishment has urged healthcare providers, pharmacies, and medical centres to verify the authenticity of medical products prior to their use or distribution.

The regulator has advised patients to consult a physician or pharmacist should they experience any unusual symptoms following use. It has highlighted the necessity of reporting any suspected products or irregular activities associated with the distribution or handling of the counterfeit batch.
