Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from Wimbledon due to wrist injury

Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of this summer’s Wimbledon Championships and the Queen’s Club tournament as he continues his rehabilitation from a persistent wrist injury, reports BritPanorama.

The 23-year-old had been battling this injury since competing at the Barcelona Open earlier this year. His absence means that the grass-court season will proceed without one of its most decorated recent champions, hindering his ability to defend his title at the All England Club.

Alcaraz had already missed the French Open, which commenced earlier this month, due to the same wrist issue. Originally, he aimed to return to competitive action at Queen’s before heading to Wimbledon shortly after.

While he expressed optimism about his recovery, stating, “My recovery is going well and I’m feeling much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to compete,” medical professionals have noted that his rehabilitation has not progressed as anticipated. Alcaraz described both Wimbledon and Queen’s as “truly special tournaments” he would miss greatly, affirming his commitment to returning to the tour.

With Alcaraz sidelined, Jannik Sinner emerges as a clear favourite to retain the Wimbledon title he captured last year, underlining the changing dynamics of a tournament that has seen its share of superstar withdrawals.

As the tournament approaches, the absence of the defending champion is a stark reminder of how injuries can reshape competition in unpredictable ways. The grass courts of Wimbledon will feel different without Alcaraz’s powerful presence, serving as a poignant chapter in the ongoing narratives of sports resilience and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
