Wesley Bryan announces breakaway tour after PGA ban

Wesley Bryan has announced a breakaway tour after being banned from the PGA Tour, reports BritPanorama.

The golfer is collaborating with his brother George and content creator Grant Horvat to launch ‘Your Golf Tour’, a venture aimed at creating a competitive platform for golfers outside the traditional tour framework.

The 36-year-old, who reached a peak of 36th in the Official World Golf Ranking in 2017, lost his tour membership after participating in LIV Golf’s ‘The Duels’ event, which featured top professionals alongside popular YouTube figures.

Now operating independently, the Bryan brothers, known as the Bryan Bros and prominent figures in YouTube golf, are offering a prize fund of £750,000 through their new initiative.

The competition will gather 16 top golfers from the creator community over four events. A statement read: “Today, we are proud to announce the launch of a new venture, Your Golf Tour (YGT), a multi-year Tour designed for high-level competition in the digital golf landscape. Competitive golf is where we started. YouTube golf is where we’ve evolved.”

“We believe there’s a place for both. It’s built by the Creators for the audience who has grown with us,” the statement continued.

The tour will conclude with an individual stroke-play championship at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas, where participants will contend for substantial prize money. The potential of YouTube golf content has been underscored by last year’s Internet Invitational, which garnered approximately 27 million views across six episodes.

This substantial viewership illustrates a growing appetite for golf events that operate outside of traditional professional circuits, positioning the new venture to attract significant audience attention.

Horvat outlined the selection process for the inaugural participants, stating competitors were chosen primarily for their golfing abilities, with their on-screen appeal considered subsequently. “We are starting with the 16 hand-selected top golfers in the creator world, not all of whom are giant names,” he explained.

He added: “The selection was based first on skill, then personality. However, our goal is to evolve even bigger and host massive qualifiers in the future. We want this to be a viable option for players who have maybe given up on pro golf but are great competitors.”

The emergence of ‘Your Golf Tour’ marks a significant shift in the golf landscape, reflecting a fusion of traditional sporting competition and the burgeoning influence of online content creation, a reminder of how the sport continues to adapt to modern engagement strategies.
